The Massolino family has farmed in Serralunga since 1896, and this 1.2-hectare parcel was their first prime holding, planted in 1957 and still home to the estate’s oldest vines. Those old vines carry smaller berries and give more concentrated fruit, while the dense clay, marl and lime-rich soils of the Formazione di Lequio push the wine towards the deepest and most powerful of Massolino’s three Serralunga crus. The fruit was fermented in large conical oak fermenters with around two weeks on skins, then matured in traditional botti before bottling, an approach the family applies across all three of its cru bottlings.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe magnum format slows maturation, so this is very much a bottle to lay down; serve at 16–18°C with braised beef cheek, roast game or aged Castelmagno.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur.
