The blue, iron-rich Sant'Agata marls here are a little lighter and more oxygenated than in Serralunga, with more silt and less clay, which gives the vines greater vigour and produces a completely different style of wine. The Massolino family was drawn to the excellent southeast to southwest exposure, the age of the vines, now around 45 years, and the site's position at 290 metres above sea level. To this day Massolino remains the only Barolo producer to bottle a single-vineyard wine from this cru. Fermentation and ageing take place in large oak, with around three weeks on skins.
