Massolino took ownership of its first parcel in 1956 and added others in 1967, 1985 and 1987, building a holding of 3.5 hectares, two of them planted to Nebbiolo. The family first bottled the site as a single cru in 1982. The soil is among the oldest terrain in Barolo, comparable to nearby Parafada but deeper and more complex, with a higher limestone content and a marked concentration of minerals and oxidised iron. The vineyard sits at about 330 metres with a south to south-west aspect that shelters it from northern winds and frost.
