Picpoul, also written Piquepoul, is a grape from the Languedoc in southern France, best known for Picpoul de Pinet on the Mediterranean coast; its name refers to its lip-stinging acidity. That natural freshness makes it well suited to the warm, maritime climate of McLaren Vale, where sea breezes from Gulf St Vincent moderate the summer heat.
