The Herzog vineyard at Haardt, at the foot of the Haardt mountains, is where the variety was first planted here by the long-serving cellar master Hans-Günter Schwarz. Beerenauslese sits a step below Trockenbeerenauslese in the German scale: individually selected botrytised berries, picked late, giving concentrated must but not the extreme shrivel of a TBA.
