La Roche Vineuse is one of the villages permitted to append its name to the Mâcon appellation, and it owes much of its present standing to Olivier and Corinne Merlin, who took over the Domaine du Vieux Saint-Sorlin here in 1987 and applied Côte d'Or methods to Mâconnais Chardonnay: whole-bunch pressing, barrel fermentation and extended ageing on lees.
