The village vineyards sit below the grand cru band on deeper, iron-rich brown limestone soils that turn the earth a distinctive rust red, and they give Pinot Noir a firmer, more tannic and more savoury profile than the communes further south. Young Aloxe-Corton is often closed and earthy and rewards keeping for a few years.
