Both of his Barberas sit at the serious end of the variety, closer to the structured, ageworthy style than to the softer, more immediately seductive school. Majano lies at 190 metres on sandy clay, and the oldest vines in the parcel have reached fifty years, which brings unusual depth and vinosity for the appellation. The wine was matured for twelve months in stainless steel with no oak, a choice that keeps the fruit clear and the acidity, always Barbera's defining feature, front and centre. The result is dark-fruited and ferrous, with floral lift and real finesse alongside the depth.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDrinking well on release and good for five or six years.
