Vines here root deeply and the wines are consistently the most austere and slowest to open of the Montmains trio, often needing several years before they show their full breadth. Growers routinely give the fruit longer on lees and sometimes a portion of older oak to soften that structure. Old vines are common on the climat, which adds concentration.
