Course-Choi, formerly Porters, on Mackenzies Road in Waipara, planted in 2004 on east-facing Domett clay, accounts for a little over 70 per cent; the balance comes from the estate's own Waikari vineyard, planted in 2000 on clay over limestone, the same slopes that produce the two single-block Pinots. A dash from a clay hillside in Marlborough's Omaka Valley finishes the blend. Fully destemmed, fermented on indigenous yeasts in open vessels, twelve months in French oak with a fifth new, then six months on light lees in concrete tulips.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBright and red-fruited, with cherry, dried herb and a chalky savoury structure; the tannins are fine and the finish tapers long. Serve at 16 degrees.
