The red Alanda is built on Mencía with Bastardo, known elsewhere as Merenzao or Trousseau, and Garnacha Tintorera, plus a small proportion of the white grape Doña Blanca. The fruit comes from a spread of organically farmed vineyards at altitude, over soils that include slate, granite and clay, so the wine reads as a survey of the Monterrei landscape rather than of a single site. One-third of the grapes are de-stemmed and everything is fermented together. The wine is aged for thirteen months in used oak barrels and a further six months in vat before bottling.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDrinking well now with several years in hand.
