Gorvia is a singular site, and the red comes from the same vineyard as the Gorvia Blanco: alongside the dominant Mencía there are small amounts of Bastardo and Caíño Redondo interplanted in the old fashion. Fermentation was carried out with 60 per cent whole bunches in a wooden vat, followed by an extended post-fermentation maceration, after which the wine was racked into a range of old casks, none of them new. The balance is the point here — power held against lightness and restraint, with field strawberry and sweet cherry, generous texture hemmed in by silky tannins, and lively acidity carrying a long mineral finish.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDrinking well now and worth another five to ten years in bottle.
