The estate was built up in the nineteenth century by Dona Antónia Ferreira and acquired by the Symington family in 1989. Its port is declared as the produce of the single property rather than blended across quintas, and the grapes, chiefly Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca with old-vine field varieties, are still trodden by foot in granite lagares before fortification with grape spirit.
