At up to 300 metres it is the highest of Weil's three hillside vineyards, but its southern aspect and its deeper, iron-rich weathered slate soils make it the most opulent and seductive of them in youth. The team at the estate often reach for the word baroque when describing Klosterberg, meaning the lift and generosity the site gives rather than any heaviness. Like all of Weil's single-site dry Rieslings, this was raised entirely in doppelstückfass, the large oval casks traditional in the region, and aged on full lees for ten months before bottling.
