roc-breia-pinot-noir-2021
Roc Breïa Pinot Noir 2021

Roc Breïa Pinot Noir is a small-production Mâconnais red from vines planted between 1970 and 1985 on clay-limestone soils.

Roc Breïa is the project of Nicolas Dancer in the Mâconnais, a part of Burgundy far better known for Chardonnay than for Pinot Noir, though the clay-limestone soils are the same rocks that serve the variety well further north. The Pinot vines are slightly younger than the estate's Chardonnay, planted between 1970 and 1985. Vinification uses around 50 per cent whole bunches, and the wine is matured in used 500-litre barrels, which keeps oak influence to a minimum. As with the white, Dancer makes a rigorous barrel selection and eliminates anything that does not meet the mark from the final blend, which is one reason only 4,000 bottles were produced. The style is bright and elegant, with redcurrant and raspberry fruit complicated by nettle and spice.

Drinking well already, though it benefits from a decant, and will hold four or five years; serve at 15–16°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom tart.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur.
