The 2023 draws on three vineyards: Grenache at 51 per cent from an ancient gravelly, sandy block in Bethany; Mataro at 40 per cent from thirty-year-old bush vines on the terra rossa of Stonegarden; and younger Cinsault at 9 per cent from gravel-shot red clay in southern Ebenezer. All three are farmed the old way, unirrigated, with next to no inputs and very low yields. Pete Schell pared things back this year: four to six hours on skins, then six months on lees in steel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLifted red fruit, floral and spice characters and a pulsing mineral stoniness run through a satin-textured palate to a berry-soaked finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
