It is a steep, east-facing slope above the village of Chenôve, on the same line as the Gevrey premier crus to the south, with lightish red soil, some sand, over a bed of Comblanchien limestone. When Marsannay is finally granted its first premier crus, Clos du Roy is expected to be near the front of the queue. Pataille farms vines planted in 1952, 1965, 1978 and 2001 here, and the cuvée is treated accordingly in the cellar: fermentation almost entirely with whole bunches, eighteen months in barrel and six months in tank before an unfiltered bottling.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWorth three to five years and good for a decade or more; serve at 16–18°C with roast beef, duck or a mature washed-rind cheese.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur.
