It is known for two things: red Burgundy, and a thermal spring that made it one of the very few spa towns in the region. The geology here is complicated by a major fault, so marl and limestone appear in shifting proportions and the wines vary noticeably from one named parcel to the next, which is why growers bottle them separately.
