The Merlot is Q45-14, a small proportion with a large effect on aromatics and mid-palate flesh. A windy spring and early budburst cut yields in 2015, but a consistently warm summer ripened the tannins properly. Parcels fermented separately in open-top vessels, macerated a further nineteen days, then spent eighteen months in tight-grained French oak, half new, before bottling in 2017.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA decade on, the fruit has turned savoury: blackcurrant with cedar, tobacco and dried herbs, tannins fine and fully resolved. Serve at 17 to 18 degrees, decanted briefly.
