Description

Famille Hugel Pinot Blanc Classic is one of Alsace’s most reliable and approachable white wines, made by the historic family estate Famille Hugel in Riquewihr.

Pinot Blanc is now the most widely planted grape in Alsace, valued for its balance, subtlety and consistency year after year. In true Alsatian tradition, this wine is a 50/50 blend of Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois, combining freshness with gentle roundness to create a dry, versatile style suited to everyday drinking and the table.

Harvested by hand from clay and limestone vineyards around Riquewihr, Hugel’s Classic Pinot Blanc is made with minimal intervention, focusing on purity, precision and drinkability. It’s often described as the region’s ultimate all-purpose white - equally at home as an aperitif or alongside food.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.

Recipe

Poulet à l’Alsacienne (Alsace-Style Chicken in Cream & White Wine)

Ingredients:

  • 4 chicken thighs or marylands
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 onion, finely sliced
  • 200ml dry white wine (Alsace-style)
  • 200ml crème fraîche or thickened cream
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and cracked white pepper

Instructions:

  1. Melt the butter in a wide pan and gently brown the chicken pieces on all sides, then remove and set aside.
  2. Sauté the sliced onion in the same pan until soft and translucent.
  3. Pour in the white wine and allow it to reduce slightly.
  4. Return the chicken to the pan, cover and simmer gently for 25–30 minutes until cooked through.
  5. Stir in the cream and Dijon mustard and simmer for a further 5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Finish with chopped parsley and season to taste before serving.

The gentle creaminess and subtle acidity of this dish mirror Pinot Blanc’s balance and freshness, allowing the wine to shine while comfortably supporting the dish’s richness.

Tip: Add a pinch of chilli flakes for extra heat.
