Albino Rocca Nebbiolo d'Alba 2022

Albino Rocca Nebbiolo d'Alba comes from a single parcel in the Seno d'Elvio subzone, on the ground between Barolo and Barbaresco.

Nebbiolo d'Alba covers Nebbiolo grown in the hills around Alba outside the Barolo and Barbaresco zones, and it is usually the earliest-drinking expression of the variety. In keeping with the estate's habit, this comes from a single site: a parcel in the westernmost section of the Seno d'Elvio subzone, an area known locally as the Terra di Mezzo, or middle earth. Vine age ranges from fifteen to sixty years. The wine is matured for twelve months in large Austrian and German oak casks, with no small barrels at any point, so the perfume and fine tannin of the grape are left in the foreground. It works both as an early-drinking understudy to the estate's Barbaresco and as a preview of the vintage still to be released.

Drink over the next five to eight years, with roast pork, tajarin with butter and sage, or a mushroom tart. Serve at 16 to 18°C.
