Description
Bachelet-Monnot Bourgogne Rouge is blended from three parcels whose vines run from 60 to 80 years old.
Regional Bourgogne rarely draws on vine material of this age. One third comes from old-vine Pinot Fin in the Hautes-Côtes, one third from village-level vines in Maranges, and the balance from a Bourgogne parcel on the edge of Puligny-Montrachet. Each contributes something different: the Puligny fruit brings perfume, Maranges the depth of fruit, and the Hautes-Côtes both structure and high-toned lift. The wine ferments naturally in concrete tanks, and the ageing took in some new barrels this year. The style is racy and mouth-watering rather than heavy, with a core of silken fruit and a dab of spice on the close, and it reflects the same cellar work the brothers apply to their premier crus further up the range.
Drinking now and holding for four to six years. Serve at 16°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom and lentil braise.
