Description

Bachelet-Monnot Bâtard-Montrachet comes from a 0.14-hectare parcel at the cooler Puligny end of the grand cru, immediately below Le Montrachet itself.

Bâtard-Montrachet straddles the boundary between Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet and is the largest of the Montrachet grand crus, with a reputation for power and breadth. The Bachelet holding is a postage stamp at the top of the slope on the Puligny side, planted to 50-year-old vines at a density of 15,000 per hectare. That density dictates short pruning, two four-bud baguettes per vine, and yields are low as a matter of course. In the brothers' hands this is consistently one of the more mineral and refined readings of the site: even in warm years the power shows as intensity and drive rather than fat. The wine was raised in one- and two-year-old 350-litre barrels, so no new oak at all, and just 800 bottles were made.

Worth cellaring five to fifteen years, though it can be broached earlier with decanting. Serve at 10-12°C with lobster, turbot or a Bresse-style roast chicken.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
