Bachelet-Monnot Meursault Clos du Cromin 2024

Bachelet-Monnot Meursault Clos du Cromin comes in part from vines the brothers' grandfather planted more than 90 years ago.

Clos du Cromin lies on the northern side of the Meursault vineyards near the Volnay border, surrounded by dry-stone walls and facing south to south-east. The soil is deep and rich in red clay with a great deal of rock beneath, making a powerful, early-ripening site that suits Chardonnay and Pinot Noir equally well. Marc and Alexandre Bachelet farm a 0.21-hectare parcel here: half of it is their grandfather's original planting, now more than 90 years old and among the oldest vines in Meursault, with the rest planted in 1998. The whites are pressed gently, fermented spontaneously and raised in 350-litre barrels with modest new oak, an approach that keeps the wine racy and tightly wound where Meursault can easily turn broad.

Best between two and eight years, it suits roast chicken, scallops or a gratin of white fish. Serve at 10–12°C.
