Bannockburn 1314 Pinot Noir 2024

Bannockburn 1314 Pinot Noir is a barrel selection of the estate's Geelong Pinot Noir, chosen for early drinking.

MV6, 114 and 115 are the clones, planted across blocks dating to 1976, 1997 and 2004, and the blend always includes fruit from the close-planted Serré and De La Terre, the parcels that produce the estate's single-vineyard wines. What separates this bottling is the selection: barrels picked for freshness and immediate appeal instead of longevity. Fermentation ran with a quarter whole bunches and a small carbonic portion, then eight months in hogsheads with twenty per cent new. Calling it a mini-Bannockburn is fair, since the savoury depth and the pure, potent flavour of the estate are all present.

Berries and spice up front, earthy depth behind, with dusty rose drifting through and tannins that are punchy and silky at once. Drink it now, at 14 to 16 degrees. Roast duck, a mushroom tart, grilled quail, or lamb backstrap with beetroot.
