Bannockburn 1314 Rosé 2022

Bannockburn 1314 Rosé is a dry rosé made entirely from Shiraz grown on the estate's Winery Block.

This was the newest wine in the range when it appeared, and a straightforward one. Whole bunches of perfectly ripe Shiraz off the Winery Block, planted in 1990 and extended in 1996, were delicately basket-pressed and racked to tank. Everything happened in stainless steel with freshness as the object, no oak at any point, and the wine rested on lees in tank before being bottled in July. The soils here are dense clay over limestone, farmed on organic principles like the rest of the estate. Matt Holmes has not tried to make this complicated and it is better for it.

Pale, dry and crisp, with red berry fruit, a savoury edge and a stony finish. Serve it properly cold, 8 to 10 degrees. It is at its best outdoors with grilled prawns, a salad niçoise, charcuterie, or a bowl of olives and almonds.
