Bannockburn 1314 Rosé 2024

Bannockburn 1314 Rosé is a full-bodied Geelong rosé built on Cabernet, Merlot, Shiraz and Riesling.

Riesling in a rosé is the surprise, and in the warm, dry 2024 season the estate's low-yielding Riesling vines gave the blend a refreshing drive it would otherwise have lacked. Cabernet Sauvignon makes up forty per cent, with Merlot, Shiraz and Riesling in equal parts behind it, all off the Winery Block from plantings of 1981, 1990 and 1996 on organically farmed clay over limestone. The Cabernet went through carbonic maceration to soften the skins before pressing to tank, while the other varieties were pressed as whole bunches. Maturation was short, around three months across tanks and old barrels.

Berry fruit and cassis with plenty of flesh, a distinctive savoury undertone and a wet-stone finish. Weight and flavour make it more versatile at the table than most pink wine. Serve at 9 to 10 degrees with grilled chicken, anything spiced, or a bowl of laksa.
