Bannockburn De La Terre Pinot Noir 2019

Bannockburn De La Terre Pinot Noir is a certified organic, close-planted Pinot Noir from Geelong.

Certification came after years of work in the rows, and it matters on a block farmed this hard: 10,000 vines a hectare, planted in 2007 on a slope of volcanic loam and dark clay over limestone, cropping near 500 grams a vine. Clone 777 does most of the talking, and the north-south row orientation is one reason the wine parts company with Serré, sitting on the plateau just above. A quarter whole bunches went into the ferment in 2019, and the wine matured in Tronçais hogsheads with a quarter new. Halliday’s young-DRC comparison, penned for the 2012, has aged well.

Velvety through the middle, with concentrated red fruit, a savoury undertow and real freshness on the close. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees. Roast duck, pork belly, or a dish built around beetroot and lentils.
