Bannockburn De La Terre Pinot Noir 2022

Bannockburn De La Terre Pinot Noir is a certified organic single-block Pinot Noir from the Moorabool Valley, made again after a short break.

The 2022 marks a return for this label, and it arrived with 100 per cent whole bunches: ten days in the fermenter before the juice came off the stems and went into hogsheads, a quarter of them new. The block was planted in 2007 at 10,000 vines to the hectare, a density that holds crops near Grand Cru levels. Sitting on the slope below the Serré plateau, it runs to clone 777 in north-south rows, and the contrast with its neighbour is far sharper than the few metres between them would suggest. Certified organic farming underpins all of it.

Satiny and savoury, with dark cherry, incense and a fine, persistent tannin line. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees; an hour in the decanter pays off. Duck, veal, or mushrooms cooked with thyme and garlic.
