Bannockburn S.R.H. Chardonnay 1.5L MAGNUM 2023

Bannockburn S.R.H. Chardonnay in 1.5-litre magnum is the estate’s finest single-site Chardonnay, bottled for the cellar.

A magnum buys time, and this is a wine worth giving it to. Twelve rows of P58 in the Olive Tree Hill vineyard make the entire cuvée — own-rooted vines planted by Stuart Reginald Hooper in 1976, centred in the plot, facing north with rows running east-west, anchored in ancient marine sediment. 2023 gave barely a tonne to the acre across the estate. Fruit was picked over two passes in early March and pressed as whole bunches, then fermented in French hogsheads with a third new, resting ten months on lees, unstirred, with 65 per cent malolactic conversion. Organically grown.

Pure and linear, with concentrated citrus, white stone fruit and the site’s saline mineral wash. It is built to last, and large format will slow it further still. Serve at 12 to 13 degrees with roast chicken or scallops.
