Bannockburn S.R.H. Chardonnay in 1.5-litre magnum is a benchmark Australian Chardonnay in large format.

Forty per cent new French hogsheads carried the ferment in 2024, with full malolactic conversion and ten unstirred months on lees, a slightly bolder frame than usual that the fruit takes in its stride. Everything comes from twelve rows of P58 planted in 1976 by the estate’s founder, the oldest Chardonnay vines on the property, own-rooted and facing north with east-west rows over ancient marine sediment. Farming is organic. Each passing year seems to draw more salinity out of that bedrock, and in magnum the wine has all the time it needs.

Tightly coiled and powerful, with concentrated citrus and stone fruit laced through with saline minerality. Built for the long haul and already showing its pedigree. Serve at 12 to 13 degrees. Roast chicken, lobster, or a wedge of aged comté.
