Bannockburn Serré Pinot Noir 1.5L MAGNUM 2023

Bannockburn Serré Pinot Noir in 1.5-litre magnum is the estate’s most celebrated Pinot Noir, in a format made for cellaring.

Serré covers 1.2 hectares of densely planted, own-rooted MV6 — 9,000 vines to the hectare, put in during 1984 and 1986 — and is very likely the oldest close-planted Pinot Noir in the country. Yields are naturally tiny, and the soils are the estate’s signature volcanic, basalt and limestone-rich mix, with rows running north to south. As Matt Holmes usually does here, the 2023 fruit was entirely destemmed and fermented on skins for ten days, then pressed to hogsheads with a third new and left on lees until February 2024. Certified organic throughout.

Head-spinning perfume, savoury spice, layers of fine detail and a finish that rumbles on. Serve at 16 degrees with an hour of air; in magnum it will keep for a very long time. Duck, venison, or truffled mushrooms.
