Description
Bannockburn Serré Pinot Noir in 1.5-litre magnum is the estate’s most powerful Pinot Noir, bottled large.
Forty per cent new French hogsheads carried the 2024, after the fruit was destemmed in full and fermented on skins for ten days; the wine then sat on lees until February 2025. Serré itself is 1.2 hectares of own-rooted MV6 planted at 9,000 vines to the hectare in 1984 and 1986, almost certainly Australia’s oldest close-planted Pinot Noir, on volcanic, basalt and limestone-rich soil with north-south rows. Three decades of bottlings have made this the estate’s reference point, and a magnum from a vintage with this much depth is a cellar proposition.
Full of contrast, which is the beauty of this block. Dark fruit, savoury spice and herbal complexity, layered and intense, clinging to the palate. Serve at 16 degrees, decanted. Roast duck, hare, or beef with wild mushrooms, though patience will pay you back better.
