Description
Bannockburn Serré Pinot Noir is a close-planted, single-vineyard Pinot Noir from Geelong.
The 2022 marked a resounding return for this label, and it arrived with the handling that defines it: in contrast to the neighbouring De La Terre, the fruit was destemmed in full, fermented on skins for ten days, pressed to hogsheads with a third new, and left on lees until February 2023. The vineyard is 1.2 hectares of own-rooted MV6 at 9,000 vines to the hectare, planted in 1984 and 1986 on volcanic, basalt and limestone-rich ground — probably the oldest densely planted Pinot Noir in Australia, and certified organic.
Rumbling power under a tight surface. Tightly packed, precise and quietly powerful, with dark cherry, spice and fine, insistent tannin. It will reward cellaring and still gives plenty now. Serve at 16 degrees. Duck, beef fillet, or a mushroom risotto.
