Description
Bannockburn Serré Pinot Noir is the estate’s most structured Pinot Noir, from its oldest close-planted block.
Nine thousand vines to the hectare, own-rooted, all MV6, planted across 1984 and 1986: that density is almost certainly unmatched anywhere older in Australia, and it explains the concentration and complexity in the glass. The 1.2-hectare block runs north to south on volcanic, basalt and limestone-rich soils, and cropping is naturally minute. The 2023 followed the usual path here — fully destemmed, ten days on skins, pressed to hogsheads with a third new, then on lees until February 2024. Farming is certified organic.
Perfume lifts straight out of the glass, followed by savoury spice, layers of detail and a long, rolling finish. Serve at 16 degrees after an hour open. Duck, squab, or a beef and mushroom braise.
