Benjamin Leroux Meursault Les Vireuils 2020

Benjamin Leroux Meursault Les Vireuils comes from three high, late-ripening parcels on rocky limestone and flint, a wine he has made since 2002.

Vireuils Dessus is one of the higher lieux-dits of Meursault, sitting above the well-regarded Les Chevalières and Rougeots in what is generally considered one of the best sectors of the village for wines at this level. Leroux has worked the same 0.45 hectares since 2002, initially while he was running Comte Armand. The three parcels face east on pure, rocky limestone and flint soils, with vines around 45 years old. Altitude and exposure make it a cool, late-ripening site, picked a good week after the fruit for his village Meursault, and that lateness is what gives the wine its purity and mineral drive rather than the breadth Meursault is usually known for. Ageing took place in older 300-litre barrels, with no new oak.

Drinking well from about three years and holding for a decade; serve at 11–12°C with roast chicken, lobster or a rich fish dish.
