Description

Benoît Moreau Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes Rouge comes from two small parcels of 50-year-old vines below the village.

Chassagne-Montrachet is thought of as a white wine village, yet red wine was its mainstay for much of its history and the appellation has been steadily rehabilitated by growers such as Olivier Lamy, Thierry Pillot and the Moreau brothers. Careful farming, gentler extraction and warmer growing seasons have all helped, giving wines with riper, more approachable tannins in youth than the region once produced. Benoît Moreau's Vieilles Vignes bottling is drawn from two small parcels of 50-year-old vines on the flatter ground below the village, where the soils carry more clay. The wine was fermented with 10% whole bunches and matured with 15% new oak, a deliberately light touch that leaves the dark cherry fruit and the spice of the site in the foreground.

Generous and fleshy, it drinks well from release and will hold six to eight years; try it with roast duck, coq au vin or hard cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
