Bessin-Tremblay Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume 2023

Bessin-Tremblay Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume is blended from three parcels of old vines spread across the full height of the hillside.

Fourchaume is the largest and best known of the right-bank Premier Crus in Chablis, running north from the Grand Cru slope on the same Kimmeridgian marl and generally giving fuller, riper wine than the left-bank sites. Bessin-Tremblay farms 1.15 hectares in the heart of the vineyard, plus a small holding in L'Homme Mort at the northern end, and the cuvée is in fact a blend of three parcels differing in aspect, vine age and rootstock. The domaine's vines run from roughly 130 to 200 metres, practically up to the woods that top the hill. Most were planted between 1959 and 1971, and they typically give one of the most opulent and layered wines in the cellar. Ageing here included thirty per cent used oak, which adds breadth without flavour.

Good now and better with five to eight years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, scallops or a rich white fish.
