Blind Corner Blanc 2023

Blind Corner Blanc is a Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon blend from biodynamic vines at Quindalup in Margaret River.

Semillon returns to the blend in 2023 at 14 per cent, taking the wine closer to the regional template it plays off. The change that matters more happened in the winery: the fruit went to three vessels, stainless steel, old French barriques and a concrete egg, and each brings something different, the steel holding aroma, the barrels adding breadth, the egg giving a rounder middle. Both varieties come off twenty-plus-year-old biodynamic blocks on sand and gravel over granite. The parcels were left to finish malolactic conversion before blending, and the wine went to bottle unfined.

There is real texture here for the money: grapefruit and lemon curd over a soft, slightly creamy palate, dry and long. Serve at 9 degrees. Grilled snapper, chicken schnitzel, or a bowl of mussels in white wine and garlic.
