Blind Corner Quindalup Chenin Blanc 2020

Blind Corner Quindalup Chenin Blanc is a small-batch biodynamic Chenin Blanc from Margaret River.

Chenin Blanc was planted widely in Margaret River in the early days and then mostly pulled out or blended away; a handful of growers, the Goulds among them, still take it seriously. This comes off the Quindalup vineyard, sand over pea gravel with a granite base, farmed biodynamically. The bunches were pressed whole, with most of the juice going to old oak barrels for wild fermentation and a smaller share to concrete eggs, which fills out the texture and lifts the aroma. Mike Bennie has called it legendary juice, which is a fair description of the pleasure-to-price ratio.

Soft and rounded, with quince, citrus and a chalky dry finish. Serve at 9 to 10 degrees. Very good with fish and chips, and just as happy alongside roast chicken or a cheese toastie made with sharp cheddar.
