Description
Blind Corner Quindalup Nouveau is a light-bodied carbonic Shiraz from Margaret River.
There is no refrigeration at the winery, so when Ben Gould wanted to ferment this Shiraz cold he sealed the destemmed fruit into cement eggs, put the eggs inside a shipping container, and pumped in carbon dioxide captured off his own white wine ferments. Two weeks at low temperature trapped the fresh fruit character and the bright colour. The grapes came from a parcel of twenty-plus-year-old vines at Quindalup, farmed biodynamically on sand over pea gravel. Once the eggs were cracked open, the fruit was basket-pressed into mature oak barrels for four months, then bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Bright, crunchy and light on tannin: raspberry, pepper and a little earth. Serve it cool, 13 to 14 degrees, and drink it young. Cured meats, grilled sausages, or a plate of cheese and crusty bread in the sun.
