Blind Corner Quindalup Sangiovese 2022

Blind Corner Quindalup Sangiovese is a medium-bodied Margaret River red from Brunello clone vines.

Frustrated by the Sangiovese material available in Western Australia, Ben Gould brought cuttings of the respected Brunello clone over himself, and they now fill eight rows of his biodynamic Quindalup vineyard. The vines are young, so he is not chasing a serious structured rosso yet; the aim is something tangy and immediately drinkable, the sort of bottle Italians open with a pizza. Grapes were foot-crushed and hand-plunged, then basket-pressed into old oak and bottled unfiltered after nine months. His time working vintages in Italy runs right through this range, from ramato to ripasso to appassimento.

Sweet cherry and a jubey mid-palate, with a spicy peppery close and the acid you want from Sangiovese. Serve at 16 degrees. Made for pizza, a lamb ragù, or sausages off the barbecue with plenty of rosemary.
