Blind Corner Rouge 2020

Blind Corner Rouge is an easy-drinking Margaret River blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Blend Shiraz with Cabernet in this part of the world and you get something greater than either alone: Margaret River Cabernet carries the flavour and the long finish, Shiraz fills in the middle with spice and silk. The 2020 draws both from twenty-plus-year-old vines at Quindalup, picked by hand, taken off its stems, left to wild yeast, then basket-pressed into seasoned oak for nine months. Less than 60 parts per million of sulphur is the only thing added. A steady season with lower yields has given this vintage more concentration and lift than usual, which is saying something at the price.

Primary and high-toned, with plum, mulberry and a whiff of pepper, the texture seamless and the tannin soft. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. Burgers, barbecued lamb, a mushroom pie, or a plate of cheddar and pickles.
