Blind Corner Rouge 2021

Blind Corner Rouge is a Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blend from organically and biodynamically grown Margaret River fruit.

Merlot pulls almost even with Shiraz in 2021, at 43 per cent against 44, with Cabernet Sauvignon making up the last 13. That gives a plumper, rounder version of this wine than most years. All the fruit is Quindalup, mostly from vines over twenty years old, hand-picked, foot-crushed and wild-fermented in large open pots. It was then basket-pressed to old oak for nine months before blending. The only addition is a small dose of sulphur, under 60 parts per million, and both Gould vineyards hold organic and biodynamic certification.

Juicy and fragrant, with dark plum, red cherry and a savoury finish, tannins barely making themselves known. Serve at 16 degrees, or slightly cooler on a warm evening. Roast chicken, meatballs, or a plate of cold cuts.
