Description
Blind Corner Rouge is a Shiraz-led red blend drawn from two organically certified Margaret River sites.
Most of the 2022 came off the Goulds' Quindalup vineyard, with the balance from a leased block at Wilyabrup: sandy soil over pea gravel and granite at the first, coastal sand and loam at the second, which gives the blend a bit more breadth. Shiraz leads at 60 per cent, Merlot follows at 24 and Cabernet Sauvignon rounds it out at 16. Both sites are certified organic. Picking is by hand, fermentation happens in open pots with the cap plunged daily, and the wine goes to French barriques for nine months before blending. Sulphur, under 60 parts per million, is the only addition.
Plush and spicy, with blackberry, plum and a savoury gravelly edge, finishing soft and dry. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees, or slightly cooler in summer. Good with steak, sausages off the grill, or a slow-cooked lamb shoulder.
