Blind Corner Rouge 2023

Blind Corner Rouge is a Margaret River red blending Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in near-equal parts.

Cabernet Sauvignon climbs almost level with Shiraz this year, 44 per cent against 45 with Merlot at 11, which pushes the wine towards the structured, leafy end of its range. All the fruit came from the single Quindalup vineyard, certified organic and biodynamic, on sandy soil over pea gravel and a granite base. The grapes were hand-picked and fermented in open pots with daily hand-plunging, then pressed to French barriques and left nine months before blending and bottling. The only thing added is a small amount of sulphur.

Cassis and dark plum with a leafy savoury lift and finely grained tannin, more serious than the price implies. Serve at 17 degrees after twenty minutes open. Roast lamb, a beef pie, or a hunk of aged cheddar.
