Description

Bodegas Mengoba Godello Viejo Sobre lías is a complex, medium-bodied white wine from the Bierzo region in Spain. A blend of 85% Godello and 15% Doña Blanca, the wine is sourced from highland terroirs of Bierzo. The Godello comes from stony Carracedo soils, as well as sandy loam and clay/limestone plots in Valtuille and Villafranca del Bierzo, at elevations above 500 metres. The Doña Blanca hails from older gobelet vines in the slate soils of Espanillo. With a vine age between 20 and 80 years, the wine undergoes wild yeast fermentation and spends six months on its fine lees in tank and large casks, which imparts depth, richness, and a smooth texture. The wine offers aromas of ripe stone fruit, citrus zest, and subtle herbal notes, with a touch of minerality. On the palate, it is full of character, with balanced acidity and a long, smooth finish that showcases the unique terroir of Bierzo.
