Bondar Rosé 2024

Bondar Rosé is a Grenache-led rosé from McLaren Vale with Cinsault and Mataro in support.

Grenache makes up 91 per cent, most of it from Andre and Selina Bondar's Rayner vineyard where the older Grenache vines are around fifty years old, with a small block of younger material and a parcel from an old sandy Blewitt Springs site alongside. Cinsault and Mataro both come from the home vineyard. The winery approach splits the fruit by role: grower and young-vine Grenache plus Cinsault ferment cool for primary lift, while the older-vine Grenache and Mataro ferment warm in old oak for texture and savoury weight. The blend arrives fresh but with something to chew on.

Juicy red fruit up front, chalky pithy grip through the middle, and a long watermelon-flecked finish that stays dry. Serve at 9 degrees, in a decent glass. Good with grilled snapper, chicken skewers with lemon, or a tomato and burrata salad.
