Bondar Violet Hour Shiraz 2022

Bondar Violet Hour Shiraz is a fragrant, mid-weight Shiraz from ten blocks of the estate's Rayner vineyard.

Each of those ten blocks has its own aspect, and the soils run from deep sand with ironstone through to clay over limestone. The Shiraz vines are among the oldest on the property, reaching seventy years in places, which explains the detail this wine carries at a relatively modest weight. Both whole-bunch and destemmed fruit go in, with time on skins set block by block, and only seasoned oak is used — usually around ten months. Like the year before it, 2022 was a cool McLaren Vale season that allowed long, even ripening with no heat stress.

Joyously fragrant and spice-driven, with svelte structure, bright acidity and length that keeps going. Serve at 16 degrees in a large glass. Lamb shoulder with harissa, grilled lamb sausages, or a dish of eggplant and tomato baked with oregano.
