Bowen Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

Bowen Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic Coonawarra Cabernet from one of the district's most respected family wineries, made in an elegant, medium-bodied style in 2023.

Doug and Joy Bowen established the estate in the early 1970s, and their daughter Emma now leads the winemaking, keeping it very much a family affair. The vines grow on Coonawarra's famous strip of terra rossa over limestone, where a cool, maritime climate and a long ripening season suit Cabernet Sauvignon. Vines are pruned by hand to keep each one in balance, which matters most in cooler years such as 2023. Subtle French oak is used so the fruit leads, and the wine shows blackberry and mulberry with the fine tannins that are a Coonawarra hallmark.

Enjoy it now with a short decant, or cellar it for five to ten years. Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees with slow-cooked lamb shoulder, a beef and red wine pie or a mushroom risotto.
